Belen Echandia handbags are for the girl who knows she’s her own woman. Belen Echandias are for the woman who loves be a different kind of chick. These handbags are for the lady who faces the new day as if it’s a brand-new world, worthy of a new color, a new fabric, a look, a new taste. All of this is true about Belen Echandia women, because it’s all true about the Belen Echandia bags themselves.

The Belen Enchandia Umbrella HandbagIf Belen Echandia was in the dictionary, it’s definition would be different, it would be exclusive, it would be innovative, and it would be colorful. Add all of these definitions together, and you have a collection of handbags with the softest of leathers, melded into colors as wild as original as the leaves on a tree during autumn, or as luscious as neopolitan ice cream.

Belen Echandia’s uniqueness does not stop on the outside of its bags. The inside are made with equal care and distinction, and an originality that can be seen in their secret compartments, practical pockets, and clasps and buttons that make the bags a maze of usefulness.

Perhaps all of this crazy practicality and creative sense comes from the founder and director of creativity at Belen Echandia, Jackie Cawthra. Jackie is just one of those women described above, defined by a drive to be herself, and to create herself in as exact and as flamboyantly brilliant as possible.

Jackie traveled to Europe at the turn of the millennium to become, of all things, a lawyer. She started in Spain, where she interned at a law firm and taught English. But there, she also was enveloped by the touch and smell of leather, the sound of romance languages, the sight of bright colors and rich textures.

After another stint with lawyering in London, she returned to Spain to discover that not only was she learning more about fashion accessories than about law. But that she saw a clear and present need in the fashion accessory market. This need was filled out in Belen Echandia, handbags designed for women like Jackie: independent, amorous, intelligent, and active. And since 2003, the market has not enough room to handle the demand for Belen Echandia bags.
